Observatory

Ok, so it looks a bit unusual but it nicely protects my LX200 from the mean Cornish wind and rain. I built it myself over winter 2008/9. It is principally of timber construction on a concrete base. The design is pretty much my own, although inspired by many existing small observatories on the web.

I am lucky to live in a rural location in Cornwall and whilst light pollution is not absent, it is certainly considerably better than much of the UK.

The roof rolls back to reveal the whole sky above about 30° alt and the telescope is seperated from the warm room by a shuttered double glazed window.

The scope is mounted in the southern section, The warm room is the northern half, all cabling is run through under the floor. The warmroom is fantastic, especially as on good observing nights the temperatures have been down as low as -10°C during the winter months in the last couple of years.
